blips.

(part of brett's logjam.)

29 November 2007

Live, my foot! They just missed a Pack TD while showing commercials about cable companies! Not amused. Just show us the game!

Ha. Twitter saves the day: http://nfl.com/live has it.

No Packers v. Cowboys tonight for me. DAMN YOU NFL NETWORK!

Okay, that’s enough of THAT. Let’s blow this pop stand.

My only reason to consider MT 4 is the iPhone interface. Posting tweets via MT is unbearable otherwise. (“NEVER UPGRADE!”)

9 September 2007

Using MT to send blips sucks. Movable Type’s web interface really isn’t very good, is it? And my weblog is now all cluttered.

Rains came, but they’re gone again.

And here comes the rain…

When did Movable Type’s interface get so clunky? (Oh, that’s right. Right around the time I discovered Quicksilver, MarsEdit, and mobile interfaces.)

Trying out a tumblelog to help reduce the link clutter. Am undecided about segregating content, but “share on tumblr” is _so_ easy!

8 September 2007

Realizing that my del.icio.us links overtook my blog this week. Adding back in some pictures and color.

Enjoying “Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont.”

Baby Beluga + iPhone = Sleeping Toddler FTW!

Reporting for duty, sir.

7 September 2007

Not worrying about my lawn this weekend.

Recovering from the Z-pack. Holy moly, those antibiotics pack a wallop!

Off to see the doctor.

Doing better. (What an amazing thing.)

6 September 2007

DO NOT JAILBREAK WITH ITUNES 7.4 STOP WAIT FOR UPDATES STOP AVOID ENEMY CONTACT OR REBOOT INFINITE LOOP STOP

Back at work, but don’t ask me to multitask.

The bad part about sleeping for nearly 24 hours straight? [vulgar gerund] insomnia.

5 September 2007

More sick. Ugh.

4 September 2007

Sick.

3 September 2007

Finally succumbing to the cold I’ve been fighting all weekend. (I should have given in earlier, having now lost Fri PM, Sat AM, Sun PM to it.)

2 September 2007

Going to Trip’s favorite church: IHOP.

1 September 2007

Overjoyed that the iPhone will both put a cranky child to sleep and then take pictures of him. SWEET.

Standing watch over my sick child.

31 August 2007

Sitting down to eat after taking T to the doctor.

Adopting ‘NaN days ago’ as a standard increment of time. (View my site in IE to follow along.)

30 August 2007

Finally home in Williamsburg again. Holy moly, today was a long day. (And it’s only 6pm.)

Off to DC.

Wondering what I’m still doing up. Don’t I have to get up in 5 hours and go drive another 3 back into the city?

29 August 2007

Marvelling at how much I really like PINE for my email. Is that sad?

Ordering stuff on Amazon’s new iPhone interface.

Happy that at least I got to see my kid and rock him to sleep tonight.

28 August 2007

Angry enough from work that I’m dropping the f-bomb all over. Days like today I actually consider drinking.

27 August 2007

Back home in Williamsburg, glad to be out of the traffic.

Off to DC.

25 August 2007

Pondering Zen Master Steve’s First Law of Office Furniture: “My lazyboy is the optimum computing environment.”

Did I say last night? I meant 5:15 THIS MORNING.

Went to bed at 5:15 last night. Body clock all screwed up, time for a migraine. Ouchy.

Entering the sixth hour of this outage. So tired I can’t see straight.

24 August 2007

Poolside.

23 August 2007

Packing it in. Any day when you get attacked by ducks is a good day.

Removing Stargate DVDs from their cases. (It is tragically too late for season 3, volume 4.)

Downtown for Her birthday.

22 August 2007

Still working. (One of those days.)

Working.

Up early, playing construction.

21 August 2007

Home again, home again, jiggity jog.

Off to play in traffic. A stop in the Apple Store for a busted iPhone headset may be in order.

In Reston, at the office.

Driving down I-64, listening to Journey and Rush.

20 August 2007

is older than dirt, and had to calculate how old he is today. (12053 days, if you were wondering.)

Jailbreaking my iPhone FTW!

19 August 2007

is betting Trip will sleep through this storm but wake up with a nightmare about a robot he saw on Sesame Street today.

Holy crap, that’s a big storm on the way. Dispatching Merrystar on rescue pickup of the inlaws.

August 19th Storm

Scratch that quiet afternoon. No-nap day today, Merrystar out shopping for shoes.

Lawn mowed. Discovered how hilarious

Lawn mowed. Discovered how hilarious T finds Cookie Monster. Ready for an afternoon of reading.

Breakfast at Huzzahs. Meh.

18 August 2007

Backyard mowed, grill assembled, garage swept and reordered. (YAH is resigned that her outdoor days are over.) Post-meal relaxing now.

Hoo. T’s taking a no-nap day, Merrystar’s out shopping; all I want is 15 minutes to sleep.

Back from the Saturday morning walk. Finally, a break from the heat!

Holy moly, it’s WHAT time?

17 August 2007

Playing with photographs. iPhoto / .Mac FTW!

Recovered from the Outlook crash, and HOW! You! Go play!

Recovering from an Outlook crash.

Trying to follow the bouncing Tigger.

More importantly, why hasn’t this storm left?

16 August 2007

Where in blazes did this storm blow in from?

Dinner. Thunderstorm. Verbs absent.

Not much in the way of improvement here with the migraine. Struggling doesn’t begin to describe it.

Ugh, migraine again. Must mean another hot day ahead.

15 August 2007

Exhausted again; must be playing catchup with the last few months. Only one solution, and it doesn’t involve more caffiene.

Watching the non-relaxing elements of the pool tire themselves out.

T just told me he wanted to help me work. I showed him Outlook. He decided I should do construction instead.

T’s off walking and installing ventilation fans in his grandfather’s garage. (Yes, he’s two.) Strangely quiet here without him.

14 August 2007

Ah well. Back inside for me. okthxbye

There are days I sure do love wireless. (This is even one of them.)

I *may* have to take the laptop outside. For, er, research. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Research. Out on the front stoop.

Lunch with the family.

13 August 2007

No, really. To bed, for reals, cats. Time to get the zeezes.

Okay. I think the logjam feed is fixed: Google reader readers, let me know if you’re still seeing duplicate posts. To bed for me.

Quick troubleshooting session with the feed, then to bed for me.

Back home in Williamsburg after much traffic. Looks like the kids are heading to the beach for one week of fun.

Resolving issues with the ticketing system.

Up in Reston, getting pictures of the latest backhoe incident. Off to lunch in a minute.

Heading off to DC,

Went bike riding with the family today. Good times. Do that more.

Huh, that was a waste of time. Update twitter, and jaiku follows.

12 August 2007

Adding Jaiku to the posting script.

Working on the syntax and phrasing in the Movable Type -> Twitter code.

Signing up for a new VOIP number in my local exchange.

Lost more of my weekend to the fracking lawn. Looking at the Lawnbott Evolution now.

11 August 2007

Cursing out my lawn mower, calculating how much time I’d save either outsourcing or automating.

Recovering from an early-morning migraine. More diet coke, please.

Does it seem to you like iPhoto 7.0.1 crashes a lot?

10 August 2007

Trying out iPhoto ‘08 and the .Mac Web Galleries. I suspect they will appeal to the subset of my friends and family who don’t like Flickr… which is unfortunately most of them.

Finally, the weekend.

celebrating the arrival of iLife ‘08 at my door!

I think I need one of those robotic lawn lowers.

9 August 2007

Yeah. I’m totally declaring photographer’s bankruptcy (again) in preparation for iPhoto 7.

I mean, I have to have _something_ to occupy my time while someone else enjoys my copy of iPhoto 7, right? RIGHT? (She’s still not listening.)

Merrystar remains unimpressed by my cross-site posting abilities. “I stopped listening when you said you were programming.”

Oh, that’s sweet. I may not need to post from iPhone -> Flickr -> Weblog -> Twitter, but it’s nice to know that I can.

Dagnabit. Someone signed for my copy of iLife ‘08, but not any of the neighbors I know. There go my plans for the evening.

Damn. Hit 102 here today. Major thunderstorms rolling through now. Time to unplug and go on battery backup.

Talking to doctor’s offices, I realize how much some of them want you to not call them. TOO BAD SO SAD.

8 August 2007

Ugh. It got hotter. Heat index of 120?

I give up.

7 August 2007

Holy moly, is it hot. This is actually worse than Houston.

I never thought I’d say those words.

6 August 2007

More concerned about my wife’s health than I am my stock’s price.

Five hundred and fifty three new email messages that need attention. Yow.

5 August 2007

Hunting backhoes.

3 August 2007

Another day off for me. This one, sadly, has work in it.

2 August 2007

Taking the day off.

1 August 2007

Home again, home again. (Jiggity jog.)

Elf needs food badly.

Getting on the plane to CLT.

Standing in line at the usair checkin; after getting my hopes up that I’d be on United, my hopes are cruelly dashed.

31 July 2007

Lost in SF.

I hope you don’t mind that I’m photoblogging a business trip. My son loves the planes.

Long day in LA (dumb jet lag). Tommorow, early flight to SFO.

30 July 2007

In North Hollywood.

In North Hollywood.

In California. The first day and night on this coast are always the hardest.

29 July 2007

Dumb Flickr. Work, blog posting by email!

I’ve never been able to actually sit in one of Charlotte’s rocking chairs before. Sweet!

28 July 2007

You know what I need? Donuts. Donuts will help.

Ow. Ow. Ow.

More asprin, please. And a little quieter over there, if you don’t mind.

27 July 2007

Here it comes, on both sides of my house now. Order is restored. (And now I don’t have to water today.)

Wondering what it means when there’s a massive thunderstorm on only one side of my house.

26 July 2007

Catching up on my son’s exciting day. Exploding water mains! Inexplicable train delays! Mysterious girls at the library! Cookies with M&Ms!

I just got to work on a slow network connection all day.

Wondering why Outlook needs so much bandwidth to send files. (Is there no throttling?)

25 July 2007

You know, it was going so well, and then Trip decided to pull off his diaper and pee in his crib.

Okay. Better now. Off to bathe the kid.

NOT HAPPY. Grumpy bear over here. Keep your distance.

Does anyone know why my son is yelling “owl!” at random intervals this morning? Because I sure don’t.

24 July 2007

You know, I thought teaching Trip to play “Marco Polo” this morning would be funny. Oops.

I appear to be paying for my mistake now.

Reading about the Coke can redesign and agree: how did this make it past the suits? It’s beautiful.

23 July 2007

Ah, sweet XML-RPC goodness for Textpattern.

Heading home.

Sunrise = time to go to DC. Off we go.

22 July 2007

At the car wash with a protesting YJM. “I got rained on a few days ago!” doesn’t cut it with me, young lady. In you go!

Recovering from a very long day yesterday. The garage is clean, though, and one of the three white wardrobes is gone.

21 July 2007

Sent to me from another parent:

“DVDs, like Tupperware, are not meant to be organized to our eyes.”

So it appears that YAH’s leak was due to a clogged roof drain. Unstick it with a length of flexible plastic, and all appears well again. Who knew?

Downtown with the family, enjoying the nice turn in weather.

My first allergy test in 10 years came back… and all I’m allergic to now is dust mites. Dust mites. Not trees, or grass, or pollen, or mold, or any of the 75+ things I tested positive for back then.

Life is sometimes wonderful and ironic at the same time.

19 July 2007

Migrane was due to massive front coming through: 25 degree drop in under 5 minutes. Holy moly, that was a lot of wind! (Knocked out power, cable, & VoIP. Nice way to end the day.)

Migraine the size of Montana; I think I’m done for the day.

At the auto body shop, getting Yah’s windshield looked at. (They remove panels here with an agonizing casualness; that’s my car you’re pulling apart!)

When, and where, did Trip learn the expression “No Way, Jose?”

While not a fan of cluttering up my sig file with someone else’s site, the advice of five sentences actually seems to work well in practice. Who knew?

18 July 2007

Watching Jesse Jackson on Sesame Street (1971) with Trip. We are somebody!

Post-deployment koan:
if no sleep equals no mind,
fire alarms still suck.

I am seriously displeased with my fire alarms, for seeing fit to all go off last night because one battery was “the wong brand.”

Midnight deployment —
Our part of the job is done.
Testers, do your thing.

17 July 2007

Lying on the floor of my son’s room updating my website while he reads the Tractor Book with him mom. (Today has not been a dada-day.)

Listening to the thundering herd which is my son busily moving books from one room to another.

Back home after long day in the city. Acquired 8gb iphone, spending even more time tonight adjusting to its quirks. Too tired to sleep.

16 July 2007

Watching the IAD inbound planes coming in over the trees. An office with a window remains a novelty.

Off to lunch. Be back in a few.

Up in DC. Traffic was the usual joy joy happy happy joy joy, but YAHzie and I pwned it.

15 July 2007

Finished riding the tractors at Lowes. Cancelling remaining yardwork for the day; too damn hot already.

Just got 6 Pownce invites. Email me if you’re interested.

Reflecting that, at some point, sleeping in meant getting past 7am.

Finishing up what ended up being a surprisingly good day.

14 July 2007

Sitting on my front steps, letting the world drive by. Off to Seasons in a bit.

Downtown. Those were some good donuts.

Another late night, rambling incoherently. Timesheet looks ridiculous this week again. Took it out on overgrown lawn with weedwacker. Felt better. Then back to work again. Inbox clean. Timestamps on non-titled posts now up, per Zen Master’s orders. He has a new car. Don’t know its name, since it has vanity plates from previous owner that must be changed. YJM is at the shop, waiting to get picked up. Replaced: battery, rear brake pads and rotors, and oil filter. Everything else looks good but the tires, need to shop Tire Rack, but it still cost me less than the brakes alone would have at the stealership. YAH still needs windshield fixed. Must clean out garage to fit both cars. Tired. Not making much sense. Did I see my kid today? I must have. Maybe we’ll get donuts tomorrow.

Mmmm… donuts. Woohoo!

ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

13 July 2007

Running out of batteries on my work phones. Never thought having two wouldn’t be enough.

Fending off requests for donuts. Resistance may be futile.

12 July 2007

Looks like YJM won.

11 July 2007

YAH has a dead battery and a leaking windshield. YJM has bad brakes. Which to fix tommorrow?

Downtown at Merchants Square for a picnic lunch. Boy, is it hot!

Knocking out the 5 things I need to do today.

10 July 2007

Realizing that someone, somewhere, has dropped their iPhone into a toilet.

9 July 2007

Getting sucked back into Twitter. Damnit, all that work this weekend wasted!

Refusing to take sides in the AJAX/SDK debar while trying to get everyone fed.

Taking the day off. Too much excitement this weekend and late last night.

8 July 2007

Wondering if my toddler needed to be quite that active today.

Is that playdough all over my keyboard? I believe it is.

Admiring alligators.

Post-iHOP playing in the garage.

7 July 2007

Correcting some bugs with the relative time scripts.

At the pool, shadyside.

Getting the kid up from his nap. Wow, did he wake late!
